Ex-LSU and Dutchtown standout Eric Reid was a former Pro Bowl performer without a team. Not any more.

The Panthers have signed the free agent safety to a one-year contract.

Eric has been a starting safety in the NFL and has played at a high level throughout his career,” general manager Marty Hurney said in a release Thursday. “After we put (safety) Da’Norris Searcy on injured reserve, Ron (Rivera) and I discussed our options, and Eric was at the top of our list. He is a physical safety with good ball skills and play-making ability.”

The 6-foot-1, 215 pound Reid played the first five seasons of his NFL career with the San Francisco 49ers. In his career, the five-year veteran has 375 tackles, 10 interceptions, 34 passes defensed, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.

Reid’s career highlights also include All-American honors at LSU, a first round draft selection by the 49ers and a Pro Bowl berth as a rookie in 2013.
