HAMMOND, La. – Junior right-hander Carlisle Koestler pitched seven innings of one-run baseball Saturday afternoon, and senior outfielder Trenon Trosclair sent a booming grand slam over the left field wall to propel the Juice Box Boyz to a 10-1 victory in Game 2 of the Heart of a Lion World Series at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.

Koestler (1-0) struck out nine batters on the mound, while a trio of Juice Box Boyz (2-0) – shortstop Brennan Breaud, right fielder Nathan Pilutti, and catcher Connor Manola – contributed two hits apiece to the Juice Box Boyz’ 11-hit performance.

The Juice Box Boyz took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning against Ice Cold Pitchers (0-2) starter Drew Avans (0-1). A two-out double by Breaud scored Trosclair, who had plated sophomore designated hitter Trey Morgan after reaching on an error by third baseman Preston Faulkner. Breaud would later score on Pilutti’s double to right center.

The lone run for the Ice Cold Pitchers came in the fourth inning, when junior shortstop Cody Grosse scored on an RBI groundout by junior first baseman Scottie Sanders.

Jace Nini, a junior transfer from Delgado Community College, relieved Avans for the Pitchers in the bottom of the fourth. He struck out four of the next nine batters he faced, but things quickly unraveled in the seventh inning.

The Juice Box Boyz added five runs when senior third baseman Taylor Schwaner opened the inning with a solo home run to center field, and Trosclair delivered a bases-loaded homer after a walk, a hit batter, and a single by Manola.

Junior first baseman Kyle Schimpf notched the game’s final two runs for the Juice Box Boyz with a homer to right center.

The win gave the Juice Box Boyz a two-game advantage over the Ice Cold Pitchers. The final game of the series will start at 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon.

Admission to the series is free. Live stats and streaming video will also be available. Links for both can be found on the baseball schedule page at www.LionSports.net.
