Oklahoma State downs New Orleans, 15-1
STILLWATER, Okla. – The Oklahoma State Cowboys jumped out to an early lead on their way to a 15-1 win over the New Orleans Privateers on Friday evening at O’Brate Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Tyler LeBlanc worked quickly through the first inning with just 10 pitches needed to retire the side. In the second though, Oklahoma State scored six runs on five hits while sending 11 men to the plate. The scoring push included two-run hits from Brock Mathis and Christian Encarnacion-Stroud.
Six more runs came across in the third including home runs from Cade Cabbiness and Nick DeNicola to set the tone. The Cowboys added three more in the fourth to close the scoring on their end.
New Orleans got a run back after Gaige Howard doubled to center to start off the frame. Issac Williams narrowly missed what would have been his first career home run but a deep sac fly scored Howard to put the Privateers on the board in the sixth.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Pearce Howard kept up his hot hitting ways with two hits including his 40th career double. Pearce is now two away from moving into the top ten in program history for career doubles.
Collin Kulivan threw 1.2 scoreless innings of relief. Beau Blanchard followed up with a crisp sixth inning in which he retired the side in order with two strikeouts.
With the results around the Southland on the day, the Privateers are guaranteed to be either the two or three-seed in the Southland Tournament. One loss by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Saturday locks the Privateers into the two-seed.
The regular season closes on Saturday with a 1 p.m. first pitch.
