Oak Grove takes over Class 1A top spot in CCS state football rankings

With the loss by Kentwood to Ascension Catholic, unbeaten Oak Grove has moved into the top spot in the new CrescentCitySports.com Top 10 rankings. The Tigers, who average 45.6 points per game, look to finish off a perfect regular season against Cedar Creek Thursday evening. Oak Grove last won a state championship in 2001.

Southern Lab moves up to second with unbeatens Haynesville and Lafayette Christian third and fourth and Ascension Catholic moving up to fifth.

In Class 2A, there are no changes with Notre Dame still first with Country Day second and Amite third. Catholic of New Iberia is fourth with Many fifth. Calvary Baptist is now ninth

In Class 3A, University High is the clear choice for the top spot with Iota second and Archbishop Hannan third. Sterlington moves up to the fourth spot after its big win over Union Parish with Lake Charles College Prep now fifth. St. Charles Catholic moves back into the top ten at No. 8 after its big road win over De La Salle.

In Class 4A, Karr remains on top as the Cougars prepare for their showdown with third-ranked Warren Easton Thursday night. Lakeshore is still second with St. Thomas More fourth and Neville fifth. Plaquemine has moved in at No. 10.

In Class 5A, unbeaten John Curtis Christian is still best after an impressive come-from-behind win over Archbishop Rummel to clinch another Catholic League title. West Monroe is still a strong second with potent Catholic of Baton Rouge third and John Ehret fourth. Zachary is fifth. East Ascension moves back into the top ten in the tenth spot.
