NSU’s Field, TAMUC’s Shoffit, SLU’s Griffin earn Southland Women’s Soccer Player of the Week acclaim
FRISCO, Texas – Northwestern State’s Hallie Field, Texas A&M-Commerce’s Mindy Shoffit, and Southeastern’s Olivia Griffn are the winners of this week’s Southland Conference Women’s Soccer Player of the Week awards, as announced by the conference office Tuesday.
Offensive Player of the Week: Hallie Field, Northwestern State – Sr. – Frisco, Texas (Centennial HS)
Field scored a goal in each of the Lady Demons’ matches last week to help lead NSU to wins over A&M-Corpus Christi and UIW and lock up the second seed in the Southland Tournament. She has scored goals in three consecutive games. Her goal against A&M-Corpus Christi was a game-winner and her goal against UIW opened the scoring for the Lady Demons. She is the third different Lady Demon to win Offensive Player of the Week this season.
Defensive Player of the Week: Mindy Shoffit, Texas A&M-Commerce – Jr. – Wichita Falls, Texas (Rider HS)
Shoffit anchored a back line that allowed just one goal in two wins for the Lions last week. She played all 90 minutes in the shutout win at UIW on Friday, with the Cardinals being held to just five shots. She also scored the match-winning goal at Houston Christian and had an assist in the match-winning goal at UIW on Friday. This is her second Defensive Player of the Week award this season.
Goalkeeper of the Week: Olivia Griffin, Southeastern – So. – Toppsfield, Mass. (The Governor’s School)
Griffin played 151 minutes in two shutout efforts for the Lions last week. She stopped four shots in a shutout over Nicholls and three shots in 61 minutes against McNeese. This is her second Goalkeeper of the Week award this season. She ranks second in the conference in saves with 52.
Honorable Mention: Nicole Panis, Lamar
Southland weekly award winners are nominated and voted upon by each school’s sports information director. Voting for one’s own athlete is not permitted. To earn honorable mention, a student-athlete must appear on 25 percent of ballots.
