Northwood cruises to win over Red River, 42-21
Northwood downed Red River in a non-district regular season finale on a chilly Friday night at Jerry Burton Stadium, 42-21.
Celebrating senior night, Northwood started the festivities early with a seven-yard coring pass from Luke Bogan to Seth Warren on their first possession to take the lead.
Bogan’s 54-yard pass to Detraveon Brown made it 14-0 less than halfway through the opening quarter.
Minutes later, the Falcons’ special teams got in on the act as well. Northwood blocked a Red River punt that was recovered by Josh Rayborn in the end zone for a touchdown to bring the score to 21-0 at 4:36 in the first.
Northwood extended to their lead to 28-0 on the opening play of the second with a three-yard run from Hunter McCabe.
Red River ended the shutout with 4:30 left in the half thanks to a 20-yard touchdown run from Cameron Keith but Northwood increased their lead back to 28 late in the half on a 15 yard pass from Bogan to Detraveon Brown.
With the game no longer in doubt, a 50-yard pass from Cameron Keith to Johnnie Maxie drew Red River closer at 35-14.
Northwood finally found the end zone again when McCabe scored from three-yards out. Red River notched a late score but the Falcons improved to 8-2 heading in a home game for the opening round of the Class 4A playoffs while the Bulldogs fell to 5-5 with a 2A first round home game next week.
