Northshore earns top seed in state girls soccer playoffs

Area teams dominate the top seeds in the Division I state playoffs announced Tuesday.

In Division I, unbeaten Northshore (19-0-3) is the top seed and gets a first round bye. The Panthers will meet the winner of No. 17 Acadiana at No. 16 Captain Shreve.

Mount Carmel Academy (18-3-3), Mandeville (23-2-3) and Dominican (17-1-8) are the next three seeds and all get byes as well. Mandeville could very well meet No. 14 St. Scholastica (10-8-3) in the second round while Dominican could see Fontainebleau in the second round. The defending state champion Doves host No. 19 Southside Friday at 6 p.m.

No. 10 Hahnville welcomes No. 23 Barbe Friday at 5 p.m.

Destrehan is the 21st seed and the Wildcats will travel to No. 12 West Monroe.

No. 13 Fontainebleau plays host to No. 20 Comeaux.

In Division II, defending state champion St. Thomas More (16-4-5) is the top seed and gets a bye. The Cougars will face the winner of No. 17 Academy of Our Lady and Bonnabel in the second round.

Neville (17-4-2) is No. 2 and has a bye. Caddo Magnet (15-4-4) is the third seed while Lakeshore (14-5-5) is the fourth seed and both get byes as well.

Ben Franklin (14-4-5) is No. 6 and gets a bye.

No. 21 Franklinton will play at No. 12 Belle Chasse on Thursday at 4 p.m. at South Plaquemines.

No. 20 East Jefferson (8-8) is at defending Division III state champion No. 13 Teurlings Catholic (5-13-3), who moved up in class this season.

In Division III, No. 1 Loyola Prep (20-2-4), the defending Division IV state champion, is the top seed and has a bye as does No. 2 Archbishop Hannan (16-4-1).

University High (14-5-2) is No. 3 while St. Louis Catholic (17-5-2) is the fourth seed.

No. 16 Lutcher (9-11-2) will entertain No. 17 Erath.

No. 21 Cabrini (7-6-2) will play at No. 12 Haynes Academy (10-6-2).

No. 20 Lusher Charter (10-6-2) travels to No. 13 David Thibodaux.

Ursuline Academy (10-7-2) earned the No. 22 seed and the Lions head to No. 11 DeRidder.

No. 23 Pearl River (10-9) will travel to No. 10 North Vermilion Friday at 5:30 p.m.

In Division IV, Houma Christian (19-2-1) is the top seed and gets a bye while Newman (13-5-2) is the second seed and receives a bye.

Episcopal (14-3-3) is the third seed and Christ Episcopal (13-4) has the fourth seed and both have byes.

No. 7 Northlake Christian (15-4-1) has a bye.

No. 9 McGehee (10-5-2) plays host to No. 24 Runnels.

No. 10 Pope John Paul II (10-6-2) awaits No. 23 Calvary Baptist.

Country Day (7-11-1), seeded 18th, will head to Baton Rouge to take on No. 15 Dunham Thursday at 6 p.m.

No. 11 St. Charles Catholic (12-5-1) will host No. 22 Covenant Christian Friday at 6 p.m.

Academy of the Sacred Heart (6-9-1) is seeded 13th and the Cardinals play host to No. 20 St. Frederick Friday at 5 p.m. at Pan American Stadium.

The state championships will be decided Feb. 26-29 at Strawberry Stadium in Hammond.

The boys soccer brackets will be announced Wednesday.
