New & Notes

** Playoff brackets will be released on Sunday, October 29.

** With the postseason coming up, the north shore will be well represented with teams in all five divisions of the postseason.

** What can you say about the Fontainebleau Bulldogs? After starting off the season with five straight losses and being in the high 20’s in the Division I power ratings, Kacie Mule’s team responded with 12 consecutive wins, playing themselves into the top 10 and a possible first round bye.

*************************************************************************************

District 5-I standings: Northshore (9-1, 20-9); Mandeville (9-2, 13-19); Fontainebleau (8-3, 23-12); Slidell (6-4, 15-12); Ponchatoula (3-7, 19-11); Hammond (1-9, 18-20); Covington (0-8, 3-26)

Division I power ratings: 1. Mount Carmel; 2. East Ascension; 3. St. Joseph’s Academy; 4. Northshore; 5. Acadiana; 6. Dominican; 7. Fontainebleau; 8. Baton Rouge; 9. Slidell; 10. H.L Bourgeois; 11. Ponchatoula; 20. Mandeville; 26. Hammond; 39. Covington

If the playoff started today – The top eight seeds have first round byes, so No. 4 Northshore and No. 7 Fontainebleau would be off in the first round, and host a second round match, with the winners playing in the state tournament at the Pontchartrain Center. Slidell, ranked ninth, would host McKinley, ranked 24th, in the first round while 20th ranked Mandeville would play at St. Amant, the 13th seed. The 11th seeded Ponchatoula Greenwave would host 22nd ranked C.E. Byrd. Covington and Hammond would be out.

*************************************************************************************

District 5-II standings: St. Scholastica (5-0, 29-8); Lakeshore (4-1, 14-19); Salmen (1-4, 11-17); Franklinton (0-5, 7-17)

Division II power ratings: 1. Teurlings Catholic; 2. St. Scholastica; 3. Cabrini; 4. Assumption; 5. South Terrebonne; 6. South Lafource; 7. Ben Franklin; 8. Terrebonne; 9. Breaux Bridge; 10. Lee Magnet; 19. Lakeshore; 23. Salmen; 36. Franklinton

If the playoff started today – St. Scholastica would be the second seed and they would receive a first round bye, and host in the regional round. Lakeshore, ranked 19th, would travel to take on 14th seeded Edna Karr. Salmen, rated 23rd, would be on to road to take on 10th ranked Lee Magnet, and Franklinton would be out.

*************************************************************************************

District 7-III standings: Springfield (3-0, 25-4); Loranger (2-2, 21-12); Pearl River (0-3, 10-14)

Division III power ratings: 1. Vandebilt Catholic; 2. Parkview Baptist; 3. St. Michael; 4. Ursuline; 5. Springfield; 6. Lutcher; 7. Northside; 8. E.D. White; 9. De La Salle; 10. Brusly; 14. Loranger; 25. Pearl River

If the playoff started today – Since the Division III field takes only the top 24 teams with the top eight seeds getting byes, Pearl River would be out. Fifth-ranked Springfield would get a first round bye while 14th ranked Loranger would host 19th ranked Rayne.

*************************************************************************************

District 4-IV standings: Hannan (6-0, 22-9); Pope John Paul II 5-1, (31-5); Northlake Christian (3-1, 11-10); St. Thomas Aquinas (4-2, 10-20); Pine (1-2, 4-13); Independence (1-4, 3-10); Bogalusa (1-5, 3-10); St. Helena (0-5, 0-6)

Division IV power ratings: 1. Pope John Paul II; 2. Notre Dame; 3. University Lab; 4. Riverside Academy; 5. Newman; 6. Hannan; 7. Sacred Heart-N.O.; 8. Evangel; 9. Episcopal; 10. Northlake Christian; 23. St. Thomas Aquinas

If the playoff started today – Despite losing last week to Hannan, Pope John Paul II held on to the top spot in Division IV. Since the top eight seeds get first round byes, the Jaguars and 6th ranked Hannan would be off in the first round, and host in the Regional round. Northlake Christian, ranked 10th, would host 23rd rated St. Thomas Aquinas.

*************************************************************************************

District 7-V standings: First Baptist (6-0, 14-7); Ecole Classique (4-2, 11-12); Lutheran (3-3, 7-15); KIPP-B.T Washing (1-1, 7-8); Christ Episcopal (2-5, 3-16); Division V power ratings

Division V power ratings: 1. Louise McGehee; 2. Metaire Park-Country Day; 3. Ascension Episcopal; 4. St. John; 5. Central Catholic; 6. St. Martin’s; 7. Catholic-P.C.; 8. Episcopal of Acadiana; 9. First Baptist; 10. Sacred Heart-G.C.; 25. KIPP-B.T. Washington; 26. Ecole Classique; 35. Christ Episcopal; 36. Lutheran

If the playoff started today – The only team from the district to reach the postseason would be No. 9 First Baptist, which would host No. 24 White Castle in the first round.
