THIBODAUX, La. — The Nicholls State University women’s soccer program officially separated from head coach Danny Free on Monday afternoon. Director of Athletics Jonathan Terrell cited personal reasons for Free’s departure. With just over two months till season kickoff, Terrell has opted to install second-year assistant Alexsis Cable as the program’s interim head coach.

“The decision to release Coach Free from our women’s soccer program was a difficult one, but necessary for us moving forward,” Terrell said. “I have every confidence in Coach Cable to take over as the interim, and we’re looking forward to putting a competitive team on the pitch this upcoming February.”

Cable, who joined the program in early August of last year, steps into the lead role with one season under her belt as a full-time assistant for the Red & Gray. Notably, however, the Texas native boasts significant Southland Conference experience after having served two years as a graduate assistant at Northwestern State (2017-18) as well as another two seasons competing at Southeastern Louisiana (2013-14).

Currently, the Colonels are slated to open the 2020 women’s soccer schedule later this February, per a release from the Southland Conference office earlier this September.
