THIBODAUX, La. — Following a tough weekend finish at in-state rival New Orleans, the Nicholls State University baseball program (9-8, 1-2 SLC) orchestrated an elite offensive performance in the team’s return to the bayou, upending Mississippi Valley State (0-14, 0-6 SWAC) in Tuesday evening’s midweek opener by a final 14-0 mark — good for a new season-high on the scoreboard — at Ben Meyer Diamond at Ray E. Didier Field.

The Red & Gray bats found their stride early and managed to stay hot throughout the contest, plating runners in six of the squad’s eight offensive attempts. Individually, junior Ivan Prejean exploded for one of his best career outings, registering three hits along with a new personal best four RBIs, not to mention two runs scored. Meanwhile, senior transfer Alex Galy made his presence felt as well, picking up a trio of RBIs as well on three hits and one run scored.

KEY STORYLINES & STATISTICS
— With the victory, the Colonels improve back above .500 to a 9-8 record while Mississippi Valley State remains winless with an 0-14 mark.
— Offensive showcase aside, the shutout came about due to another strong start from sophomore LHP Tyler Theriot (3-2), who worked the opening 6.0 frames with just three hits surrendered while striking out six. Dwain Varisco, David Vial Jr. and Austin Bollinger — his first appearance of the season — each earned an inning in relief, combining for no hits with five strikeouts as a unit.
— Beyond Prejean and Galy, four separate Colonels captured either an RBI or a multi-hit game with only two — sophomore Xane Washington and redshirt senior Adam Tarver — overlapping as they each secured two hits and an RBI for the night. Overall, eight student-athletes racked up a hit in the win while six pushed into multi-hit range.
