BRYAN, Texas — Following an abrupt end to the collegiate baseball season earlier this March due to COVID-19, a pair of Nicholls student-athletes — rising-junior LHP Shane Mejia Jr. and rising-sophomore OF Caleb Hill — are slated for an early return to the diamond in the Collegiate Summer Baseball Invitational (CSBI), a six-game tournament scheduled for Thursday evening through Saturday night.

The initial pair of games on Thursday are set for live broadcast on ESPN2 (6 pm/9 pm) while the final four are available on Pay-Per-View.

The Collegiate Summer Baseball Invitational is an invitation only, four-team regional formatted tournament that will feature rosters composed of players from elite universities all around the country, hand-picked by the coaching staffs. The event began with three days of practice and will be played in a multi-use sports complex and stadium located in Bryan/College Station, Texas.

During the shortened 18-game 2020 college baseball season, Mejia Jr. served as the Colonels’ primary Saturday starter, making four appearances on the mound and earning a team-second best 23.1 innings pitched. Hill, meanwhile, racked up five appearances in his rookie year with the Red & Gray, notching a pair of runs scored as one of the squad’s top pinch runners.

Mejia Jr. (#21) will see action first on Thursday as a member of the CSBI Liberty while Hill (#20) will take the field in the late contest as a member of the CSBI Freedom. The complete schedule for the six-game tournament is detailed below:
— Thursday (6/4) 6 pm: CSBI Unity vs. CSBI Liberty (G1)
— Thursday (6/4) 9 pm: CSBI Freedom vs. CSBI Independence (G2)
— Friday (6/5) 5 pm: Game One Loser vs. Game Two Loser (G3)
— Friday (6/5) 8 pm: Game One Winner vs. Game Two Winner (G4)
— Saturday (6/6) 5 pm: Game Three Winner vs. Game Four Loser (G5)
