Nicholls’ Miller, Landry named SLC Softball Hitter, Pitcher of the Week

The two lead the Colonels to a 5-0 week, the only unbeaten team in conference play

FRISCO, Texas – Nicholls’ Kelsey Miller and Megan Landry are the Southland Conference Softball Players of the Week, the league announced Monday. Southland Conference Players of the Week are presented by UniversalCoin.com.

Miller and Landry helped the Colonels (19-7, 6-0 SLC) extend their win streak to 10 games on a 5-0 week for the team. Nicholls is the only team who remains undefeated in conference action. The Colonels will put their unbeaten record to the test when they travel to Hammond this weekend for a three-game series with Southeastern Louisiana (15-11, 4-2 SLC). First pitch is scheduled for Friday at 5 p.m. CT. The doubleheader Saturday will begin at noon.

This is Nicholls’ first hitting award of the season while Landry earns her second weekly honor after being named the Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 20.

Softball Hitter of the Week – Kelsey Miller, Nicholls – OF – Fr. – Denham Springs, La.

Miller hit safely in all five games for the Colonels this past week, batting .615 with five runs scored and three RBIs. The freshman outfielder recorded three hits across the doubleheader sweep over Mississippi Valley State. She also picked up a stolen base in the nightcap. In this weekend’s series with Stephen F. Austin, Miller had five hits on seven official at-bats. She started off the series by beating a throw home on a double for a walk-off win against the Lady Jacks. The product of Denham Springs, La., then tallied consecutive multi-hit games.

Softball Pitcher of the Week – Megan Landry, Nicholls – Jr. – Pierre Part, La.

Landry continued her dominance in the circle for the Colonels with three wins on the week with a 1.31 ERA and 13 strikeouts. In the series sweep against Stephen F. Austin, Landry tossed a complete game in the opener while fanning nine toward a 2-1 victory. She then picked up another win in relief in game two of the doubleheader. In 3.1 innings of work on Saturday, Landry allowed just four hits and one run.

Southland weekly award winners are nominated and voted upon by each school’s sports information director. Voting for one’s own athlete is not permitted. To earn honorable mention, a student-athlete must appear on at least 25 percent of ballots.
