RELEASE

FRISCO, Texas – Nicholls State University men’s golfer Baker Stevenson has been named to the All-Southland Second Team, giving the Colonels their fifth consecutive year with an all-league performer.

Stevenson, a native of Hartland, Michigan, posted a stroke average of 75.2 in 30 rounds throughout 12 events. He is the second Colonel under head coach James Schilling to earn second-team honors, joining Jack Lee (2016). Albert Badosa-Soler was a two-time selection at first- (2017) and third-team (‘18), and Andri Bjornsson was a third-team honoree in 2015.

“Baker was looking for a place to play Division I golf and to get further south to work on his game more,” Coach Schilling said. “As team captain, he took full advantage of his senior year. He embraced everything that Division I athletics could provide here at Nicholls and didn’t waste his opportunity, working hard during the summer and over the break. I’m very proud of him and how he was able to develop into an all-southland player is something I’ll always remember.”

Stevenson put together four top-20 finishes, highlighted by tying for sixth in the LaTour Collegiate Challenge and a tie for seventh in the Battle of the Big Easy. His best single round of the season was a 5-under 67 in the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate. Including his 5-under, Stevenson finished under par in 10 different rounds in his senior campaign.
