Nicholls’ Loan-Anh Johnson named Southland Women’s Basketball Player of the Week

Colonels’ guard shoots 17-for-22 from the field on the week

FRISCO, Texas – Nicholls’ Loan-Anh Johnson is the Southland Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.

Johnson pushed the Colonels (4-11, 1-5 SLC) to a 1-1 week following an extremely efficient shooting performance that featured a 77.2-percent field goal mark for the sophomore. The Wichita, Kan., native averaged 21.5 points per game for Nicholls and converted all 17 of her field goals from inside the three-point arc.

Johnson put together a solid week, averaging 21.5 points on 77.2-percent shooting to go along with 6.5 rebounds in the Colonels’ two games last week. The sophomore began with six rebounds and a career-high 22 points Thursday evening against Lamar. She then followed up with 21 more points, seven rebounds and three assists in the Colonels’ 67-65 buzzer-beating victory over rival Southeastern Louisiana Saturday afternoon.

Southland weekly award winners are nominated and voted upon by each school’s sports information director. Voting for one’s own athlete is not permitted. To earn honorable mention, a student-athlete must appear on 25 percent of ballots.
