Nicholls’ Jeremiah Jefferson named final Southland Men’s Basketball Player of the Week

Graduate student guard helps Colonels close season with two-straight wins

FRISCO, Texas – Nicholls’ guard Jeremiah Jefferson is the Southland Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced Sunday. Southland Conference Players of the Week are presented by MidSouth Bank.

The Dallas native averaged 26.5 points per game as the Colonels posted home wins over Northwestern State and Southeastern Louisiana to close out the regular-season.

He started the week with a 25-point game against Northwestern State, hitting 7-of- 13 from the field in an 83-60 victory. In the 69-63 win over SLU, he poured in a game-high 28 and drained 6-of- 10 from behind the arc.

Along with shooting 50 percent from the field for the week, Jefferson made 9-of-16 from three-point range and finished the season with 98 3-pointers, which broke the program’s record by one. He closed out the regular season fifth in the league in scoring, while ranking first in threes made and third in three-point percentage.

Southland weekly award winners are nominated and voted upon by each school’s sports information director. Voting for one’s own athlete is not permitted. To earn honorable mention, a student-athlete must appear on 25 percent of ballots.
