THIBODAUX, La. – Sporting a 4-2 record after its win over rival Northwestern State, the Nicholls State University football team moved up two spots to No. 23 in this week’s FCS Coaches Top 25 Poll, released Monday afternoon.

It marks the third time in the last four weeks that Nicholls has been ranked in the coaches poll. The Colonels cracked the top 25 at No. 23 three weeks ago, but slid out after their loss at Sam Houston State. A win over Lamar put them back at No. 25 last week and the 68 votes in this week’s edition was good for No. 23.

The Football Championship Subdivision has two top 25 polls. In the STATS FCS Poll, the Colonels received 104 votes from the media, placing them outside at No. 30. Nicholls is one of four Southland Conference teams ranked in the polls, joining No. 6/6 Central Arkansas, No. t-9/9 Sam Houston State and No. 21/22 McNeese. The Colonels are 1-1 vs. the top 25 this season.

The Red and Gray will take on Abilene Christian for the first time in program history, hosting the Wildcats this weekend (Oct. 14) at John L. Guidry Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. and the game will serve as the Pink Game, sponsored by the Cancer Center of Thibodaux Regional, as well as the Hall of Fame Game and Homecoming.

Tickets for the game can be purchased ahead of time at NichollsTicket.com or by calling the ticket office at 985-448-4790. The Hall of Fame ceremony will take place in the Harold J. Callais Recreational Center at 10 a.m. and is open to the public.
