THIBODAUX, La. – Head coach Richie Riley finalized the 2017-18 men’s basketball coaching staff Friday with the additions of assistant coach Amorrow Morgan and director of operations Tyler Parker.
Morgan joins the Colonels after a two-year stint as head assistant men’s basketball coach at Henderson State University. Morgan lifted the Reddies on and off the court as the squad brought in two of its best recruiting classes in school history and experienced an increase in GPA during Morgan’s final two semesters.
Before his time with HSU, Morgan held the same position at Our Lady of the Lake University, where he helped the Saints to a NAIA Sweet 16 appearance and 25-6 overall record. Morgan also served as the top assistant for the University of Illinois at Springfield for the 2013-14 season. Under his tutelage, the Prairie Stars won their first playoff game in school history.
Morgan’s illustrious basketball career began at Idaho State University, where he was selected to the All-Big Sky team and served as team captain for three consecutive seasons. In August 2010, he joined the World-Class Aviation Giants of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA). Morgan spent nearly three years in the league and concluded his professional playing days in 2012-13 with the SC Itzehoe Eagles, contributing as the team’s top scorer.
Parker joins Riley’s staff after spending the last two seasons as associate head coach of the Shorter University men’s basketball team. He also compiled a 23-9 overall record with Crowley’s Ridge College (2014-15) and a 43-17 mark as assistant coach at Faulkner University (2012-14). Parker started at guard for the Eagles during the 2011-12 season when they made a semifinal appearance at the SSAC Tournament.
Parker is no stranger to the offseason circuit as he has worked as an instructor at eight different summer camps around the country.
