Nicholls at No. 15 in FCS Top 25 polls

AFCA COACHES POLL   |   STATS FCS POLL

THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University football team moved up three spots to No. 15 in the AFCA Coaches and STATS FCS polls, which were released Monday afternoon.

Nicholls climbed the polls after defeating Sam Houston State in its home opener, 27-7. The Bearkats were ranked No. 11 last week and slid down to 19/21. It was the first win for the Colonels in the series since 2005, snapping an 11-game losing streak.

For the coaches poll, Nicholls received 293 points and trails Villanova for 14th (320). The Colonels garnered 1,759 points in the media and are behind Villanova (1,814) and Southland member Central Arkansas, which tried for 13th.

Four Southland schools remain ranked in each poll. McNeese leads the way at 11/10, followed by Central Arkansas (12/t-13) and Sam Houston.

Nicholls has just one home game in the next four weeks, which is this Saturday (Sept. 29) against Lamar. The annual Family Day game is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Tickets are available by calling 985-448-4790 or visiting NichollsTickets.com.
