Newman wins girls Division III tennis title
Newman captured the LHSAA girls Division III state tennis championship at ULM, scoring 15 team points. Academy of the Sacred Heart of New Orleans finished second with 11 points.
Micah Pierce of Newman captured the singles title, defeating Sofia Rodriguez of the Cardinals in the title match.
The doubles team of Virginia Cunningham and Gwendolyn Gray of Newman won the state doubles championship with the duo of Mariella Congeni and Olivia Boyd of Sacred Heart finishing second.
St. Louis Catholic won the Division III boys state championship with University Lab finishing second.
Christ Episcopal won the Division IV boys title with Dunham finishing second.
Christ Episcopal finished second in the girls Division IV state championship with Ascension Episcopal taking the team title.
