An on-the-rise football program at Nicholls has made a big addition to its backfield.

Former Isidore Newman standout Kendall Bussey Jr., who spent the last three seasons at Texas A&M, has transferred to Nicholls, Colonels coach Tim Rebowe confirmed to the Courier and Daily Comet Friday.

“He showed up (Thursday) and we got him his physical and got him into the playbook and on the field (Friday),” Rebowe said. “He is quite a specimen. He worked out over the summer and I think he can help this football team.”

Bussey rushed for 97 yards and a touchdown in the Aggies’ 24-14 victory over NIcholls last September. He had 411 rushing yards in two seasons after redshirting in 2015.

He is eligible immediately by virtue of transferring from an FBS to an FCS program and has two years of eligibility remaining.

The Colonels also added offensive lineman Alex Alexander, who prepped at Landry-Walker and is transferring from the University of Texas.

Nicholls opens its season Sept. 1 at Kansas and plays at Tulane Sept. 8.
