JOHNSTOWN, PENN. – The New Orleans Boosters completed their second straight mercy rule victory with Tuesday’s 16-6, 8 inning win over Columbus in Day 2 of the 2021 All-American Amateur Baseball Association (AAABA) National Tournament.

Columbus struck first with a three run third inning, capitalizing on four singles and 2 Booster errors to take a 3-0 lead. In the bottom frame, New Orleans answered with four runs, the first coming when Jacob Singletary’s bases loaded hit by pitch and a three run triple by Josh Alexander to give the Boosters the 4-3 lead.

New Orleans added a run in the fourth on a groundout. In the fifth, Columbus plated three on an RBI single and a two run error to take a 6-5 lead. The lead carried to the sixth when Stephen Klein and Brennan Lambert’s bases loaded walks plated the tying and go-ahead runs before Jacob Singletary’s grand slam cleared the bases and gave New Orleans a 11-6 lead. The Boosters added two in the seventh and three in the eighth enroute to the 16-6 win.

The game winning run came on a wild pitch to score pinch hitter Brennan Hamner during Josh Alexander’s at bat.

Turner Toms picked up the win in relief of starter Devin DeSandro and Will Reed.

New Orleans (2-0) will close pool play against Brooklyn Wednesday at noon EST at Roxbury Park. Tuesday’s win secured the Boosters an advance to the tournament’s quarter final round beginning Thursday.

The New Orleans franchise is celebrating its 75th anniversary of its first AAABA appearance in 1946. The Boosters are the defending national champions, winning the 2019 AAABA Tournament before 2020’s pandemic-induced cancellation.
