New Orleans defeats Johnstown-Paul Carpenter 3-0 to open AAABA play

JOHNSTOWN, Penn. – The New Orleans Boosters defeated Johnstown-Paul Carpenter 3-0 Monday in the opening round of the 75th annual All-American Amateur Baseball Association Tournament.

New Orleans starting pitcher Ian Landreneau went the distance, pitching the nine-inning complete game shutout, striking out six and holding Johnstown to four hits.

The game remained scoreless through the fourth innings before Branyan Bounds doubled to lead off the fifth and scored on a single by Mikey Stutes for the first run of the game. In the seventh, Bounds reached base on a leadoff walk, advanced when Matt Barthelemy reached as a hit batter, and scored on a double by Mikey Stutes. Grant Schulz doubled to score Stutes for the third and final run of the game.

New Orleans will face Buffalo on Tuesday at noon (EST) as pool play continues.The bracket will progress through Wednesday when the top two teams from each of the four pools advances to a single elimination bracket.

This summer marks the New Orleans franchise’s 73rd year as a franchise of the AAABA. The Boosters closed the 2018 tournament as national runner up to Johnstown Martella’s.
