New Orleans defeats Johnstown-Martella’s 12-2 to open AAABA Tournament play
New Orleans defeated Johnstown-Martella’s 12-2 in seven innings Monday to open their appearance in the 2021 All-American Amateur Baseball Association (AAABA) National Tournament in Johnstown, Pennsylvania.
Carson Lore pitched a complete game, holding Martella’s to only two runs on six hits and striking out eight.
The victorious Booster scored two in the first inning on a two run single by Craig Westcott. JT Singletary reached in the second on a double and scored on a groundout by Nick Lorio. Martella’s plated a run in the second and one in the third before New Orleans answered with two runs in the fourth and a six-run fifth inning.
In the fifth, New Orleans batted around with RBI hits by Jacob Singletary, Josh Alexander, Bryan Broussard. A RBI groundout by Brayden Caskey and a two run double by Nick Lorio rounded out the scoring.
In the seventh, Jacob Singletary’s solo homerun over the leftfield wall that ended the game.
Carson Lore picked up the win on the mound, pitching the complete game as New Orleans improved to 1-0 in pool play.
The Boosters will face Columbus at 11 a.m. Central time Tuesday.
This tournament marks the New Orleans franchise’s 75th anniversary of its first AAABA Tournament in 1946. The AAABA returns this week for its 76th tournament after a pandemic-induced hiatus in 2020.
