New Orleans defeats Brooklyn 10-2 to improve to 3-0 in AAABA Tournament play
JOHNSTOWN, Penn. – The New Orleans Boosters defeated Brooklyn (Bonnie Rams) 10-2 Wednesday to improve to 3-0 in the 75th annual All-American Amateur Baseball Association Tournament.
Brooklyn plated the first run of the game in the second inning on a solo home run to take an early 1-0 lead. New Orleans’ first hit came on a bunt single by Jonah Manuel to open the fourth inning. Grant Schulz reached on a walk before Brayden Joubert’s three run home run gave the Boosters the 3-1 lead.
New Orleans added solo runs in the fifth and seventh inning and batted around in the eighth to score five. The eighth inning saw a doubles by Brayden Joubert and Branyan Bounds, singles by Ross Scelfo, Matt Barthelemy, and Grant Schulz en route to New Orleans’ eventual 10-2 decision over the Rams. Matt Barthelemy closed the day 3 for 4 with a double and two singles.
Starting pitcher Kraig Segrave picked up the win on the mound, allowing one earned run and allowing four hits and two walks. Michael Romano, Zach Roussel, Hunter Draper, David Theriot, and Matt Barthelemy all pitched one inning of relief.
New Orleans closes pool play 3-0 and will advance to the single elimination round as the top seed in its pool. The Boosters will face Cleveland on Thursday.
This summer marks the New Orleans franchise’s 73rd year as a franchise of the AAABA. The Boosters closed the 2018 tournament as national runner up to Johnstown Martella’s.
