New Orleans Bowl back at night for 2018

New Orleans BowlThe R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl returns to a night kickoff this year, according to the schedule of 35 bowls airing on the ESPN family of networks announced Wednesday.

The New Orleans Bowl will cap off the first day of bowl season with an 8 p.m. kickoff on Saturday, Dec. 15, inside the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, matching teams from the Sun Belt Conference and Conference USA. Troy defeated North Texas 50-30 in last year’s game.

The Allstate Sugar Bowl is in its usual New Year’s night position, scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff on Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2019. After hosting a College Football Playoff semifinal last season – a game in which Alabama defeated Clemson en route to another Crimson Tide national title – the Sugar Bowl will return to its non-playoff year configuration of SEC vs. Big 12.

Louisiana’s other bowl game, the Walk-On’s Independence Bowl in Shreveport, will kick off at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 27.
