New Orleans Boosters earn spot in AAABA title game with 7-2 win over Johnstown

JOHNSTOWN, PA – The New Orleans Boosters defeated Johnstown (Martella’s) 7-2 Friday to advance to the championship round of the 73rd annual All-American Amateur Baseball Association (AAABA) Tournament.

New Orleans (5-0) batted around in the third inning to post six runs on three hits (singles by Justin Ory, Spencer Miller, and Grant Mathews) and walks by Noah Fontenot and Justin Nussbaum. The Boosters added a seventh run in the seventh when Grant Schulz reached on an error and scored on another error. Johnstown’s two runs came in the seventh on back-to-back singles, followed by a wild pitch and a bases-loaded hit by pitch.

New Orleans’ Mason Mayfield pitched six innings with Daniel Dugas coming on to earn the save in relief.

With the victory, the Boosters advance to face Johnstown’s Paul Carpenter entry in the 2017 Championship game, which is scheduled for 7:00 EST Saturday night. The game will mark the twenty-sixth title game appearance for the New Orleans franchise as the franchise seeks it’s fifteenth championship.

New Orleans has been a member of the All-American Amateur Baseball Association since 1946.
