New Orleans Boosters down Johnstown to complete sweep through AABAA tournament for national title

JOHNSTOWN, PA – The New Orleans Boosters defeated Johnstown (Paul Carpenter) 4-1 Saturday night to claim the 2017 AAABA national championship.

New Orleans plated the first run in the first inning when Justin Nussbaum singled, stole second, and scored on a single by Blake Way. In the third, Justin Ory and Blake Way reached on back-to-back singles and scored on a double by Spencer Miller to take a 3-0 lead. Miller scored on a single by Grant Mathews.

Johnstown’s solo run came in the seventh following a leadoff walk, single, scoring on a wild pitch. Starting pitcher Jonathan Ebersole picked up the win, pitching six innings with Chris Turpin earning the save in relief.

New Orleans won each of their six games in the 2017 tournament with the pitching staff combining for a 1.26 earned run average. The victory marks the New Orleans’ franchise’s fifteenth AAABA national title with the most recent coming in 2015.
