New Orleans Boosters defeat Zanesville 8-1 to advance to AAABA Tournament semifinals

JOHNSTOWN, Penn. – New Orleans defeated Zanesville 8-1 Thursday in the quarter final round of the 74th annual All-American Amateur Baseball Association Tournament.

Blake Freeman led off the third inning with a double, scoring on a single by Alex Galy for the first run of the game. In the fourth, Zanesville’s Luke Kleinhuffer tripled and scored on a groundball to tie the game 1-1.

New Orleans answered in the bottom frame with a leadoff single by Grant Mathews and a double by Grant Schulz. Tyler McManus walked before being erased on a line drive double play. Blake Freeman’s two-out double plated both remaining base runners to give the Boosters a 3-1 lead.

New Orleans added additional runs in the fifth following a RBI single by JP LaGreco, scoring Brandon Briuglio who doubled. Tyler McManus’ two solo homeruns in the sixth and eighth added two runs.

In the eighth, Michael Kirsch singled and scored on a double by Alex Galy. Galy scored on a double by Brandon Briuglio to close New Orleans’ scoring enroute to the 8-1 victory.

New Orleans starting pitcher Daniel Dugas went the distance, pitching the complete game and holding Zanesville to one run on five hits, two walks, and eight strikeouts.

With the win, New Orleans advances to the tournament’s semi-final round on Friday.

The year marks New Orleans’ 72nd summer as a franchise of the AAABA. New Orleans has appeared in twenty-six title games and captured fifteen national championships, most recently in 2017. The 2018 squad features players from local programs such as Delgado, Tulane, LSU, Northwestern State, Southeastern, UNO, and the University of Houston.
