JOHNSTOWN, Penn. – The New Orleans Boosters defeated Buffalo (Royal Printing) 10-0 in mercy rule fashion Friday to improve to 5-0 in the 75th annual All-American Amateur Baseball Association Tournament and advance to the franchise’s 28th championship game.

The fourth consecutive appearance in the tournament title game for the Boosters means a rematch with defending champion Johnstown Martella’s Pharmacy at 5 p.m. central time Saturday. Both teams take 5-0 records into the winner-take-all final.

Michael Stutes scored the Boosters’ first run of the game following a leadoff walk to start the game, advance on two groundouts, and score on a wild pitch. Branyan Bounds doubled in the fourth and scored on Matt Barthelemy’s RBI single to make it a 2-0 game.

Buffalo threatened in the sixth, but failed to score before the Booster offense exploded for an eight run seventh inning including a run-scoring fielder’s choice by Brandon Duhon to load the bases and a bases-clearing triple by Grant Schulz. Three consecutive doubles by Brayden Jobert, Ross Scelfo, and Greg Thompson made it a 9-0 game before an outfield error plated Thompson for the Boosters’ 10th run to finalize New Orleans’ mercy rule victory and the berth in the tournament’s championship game.

Starting pitcher Blake Marshall went six innings, striking out five and holding Buffalo scoreless. Zach Roussel retired the side in the seventh in relief.

The New Orleans franchise has captured 15 AAABA titles, its most recent in 2017. This summer marks the 73rd year for New Orleans as a franchise of the AAABA.
