New Orleans advances to AAABA semifinals with Thursday’s 10-0 win over Altoona

JOHNSTOWN, PA – New Orleans defeated Altoona 10-0 in eight innings Thursday in the team’s fourth consecutive mercy rule victory in the 76th annual AAABA National Tournament.

Dwain Guice went the distance on the mound for New Orleans, holding Altoona to no runs while striking out five and walking one.

Offensively, the Boosters plated four runs in the second inning, two coming off a single by Josh Alexander, who advanced on an outfield error and later scored on a groundout.

An RBI single by Christian Westcott in the third added a fifth run before back-to-back singles by Brady Faust and Christian Westcott in the seventh added two insurance runs.

In the eighth, a leadoff Altoona error, a hit batter, and an RBI single by Bryan Broussard plated an eighth run before a hit batter and two run double by Brady Faust scored New Orleans’ final two runs to close the game’s 10-0 mercy rule decision in eight innings.

With the win, New Orleans will face Philadelphia in a semi final elimination game Friday at a time to be determined pending the host Johnstown’s game against South Carolina tonight.
