Neville handles Huntington, 49-12

Neville was a team looking to rebound Friday night at Independence Stadium. They did just that at the expense of Huntington.

The Tigers feasted on big offensive plays in a 49-12 victory. Jaylon Nichols tallied three total touchdowns while Brooks Anazalone tossed four touchdowns passes.

After his squad gave up 43 points last week in a loss at Ouachita, Neville head coach Jeff Tannehill was satisfied with his team’s total performance in a third straight game away from home to open the season.

“Brooks Anazalone did a great job throwing the ball and the receivers did a great job catching it, ” said Neville head coach Jeff Tannehill. “We did a better job of tackling. Our team executed well and was looking to bounce back.”

The onslaught started at the six minute mark of the first quarter with a 38-yard pass from Brooks Anazalone to Bradley Hanlon to make it 7-0.

The run game was working for the Tigers as well. Nichols doubled the advantage with a 13-yard late in the opening stanza.

Huntington (1-2) used the big play for their opening score to draw back closer. Kamron Evans connected with Damarion Carter for a 50-yard strike.

Unfortunately for the Raiders, Neville (2-1) kept them out of the endzone until the game was no longer in doubt.

A 60-yard pass from Brooks Anazalone to Jaden Gipson re-established the two-score lead for the Tigers midway through the secodn quarter, 21-6. Nichols scored on a 23-yard run to make it 28-6 with 3:42 to go before halftime.

Anazalone utilized Nichols as a receiver via a 69-yard touchdown to increase Neville’s lead to 35-6 in the final minute before halftime.

Huntington’s Evans found Kenton Brossett for two-yard score to make 35-12 with 3:52 remaining in the third quarter. Anazalone countered with 26-yard pass to Bradley Hanlon less than two minutes later.

Anazalone managed 12 completions in 14 throws on the night.

A 87-yard touchdown run from Jonovan Green capped the scoring in the final period.

Neville plays their first home game next week, hosting North Caddo. Huntington will try to break a two-game skid when they face Northwood.
