Nevada hands Tulane first loss of season in Cayman Islands opener

GEORGE TOWN, Cayman Islands – Nevada handed Tulane its first loss of the season on Monday night in the first round of the Cayman Islands Classic, 75-66.

Jaylen Forbes led the team with 24 points, seven rebounds and five steals. Forbes hit a contested three early in the second half to hit his 1000th career point as well.

Sion James was the only other member of the Green Wave to score in double figures, notching 15 points and grabbing three rebounds.

Playing without standout guard Jalen Cook, Tulane (3-1) faced added adversity from several controversial calls and struggled defensively, sending Nevada to the line 38 times.

The Green Wave led going into the locker room, 32-29, having held Nevada to just 20% shooting from beyond the three-point line and 33.3%.

The second half battle continued with the score being knotted up seven times. Tied at 54 with seven minutes left, Nevada hit a three-pointer and kept the lead for good.

UP NEXT
Tulane faces Rhode Island (1-3) at 4 p.m. Central time Tuesday in the Cayman Islands Classic. The game will be streamed by FloSports.

LAGNIAPPE
-Jaylen Forbes made his 56th straight start, the most on the team. He hit the 1,000 career points milestone in the contest.
-Tulane has made at least one 3-point field goal in 259 consecutive games. The last time the Green Wave failed to do so came on Jan. 16, 2014 at home against Louisiana Tech when they went 0-for-14 from outside.
