As is always seemingly the case, the SEC dominates the latest college football national rankings released Sunday.

Five SEC teams are in the Top 10, six are in the top 11 and seven are in the Coaches Top 25 overall. In the Associated Press poll, the league boasts six of the top 10.

Clemson received 44 of 48 first place coaches votes and accumulated 1,196 points to claim the top spot. Alabama is second with 1,196 points and the Crimson Tide receive one first place vote. Oklahoma and Georgia are tied for third with 1,019 points. The Sooners won their season opener easily last week over FCS Missouri State.

Other SEC teams ranked include Texas A&M at 11th in the coaches rankings and 10th in the AP. Tennessee is No. 21 in the coached polls but five spots up at No. 16 in the AP.

Defending national champion LSU is No. 5 in the coaches poll. The Tigers received a first place vote and 962 points.
Ed Orgeron’s team remained No. 6 in the AP, also garnering one first place vote.

The UL-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns dropped four spots to No. 25 after a 34-31 overtime win at Georgia State but held their No. 19 ranking in the AP.

The American Athletic Conference has Central Florida at No. 15 while Cincinnati is 16th and Memphis is No. 20.

LSU’s opening opponent this Saturday, Mississippi State, received seven points in the poll while Louisiana Tech got two points off of a thrilling 31-30 win over Southern Miss.
