NASH ICON 106.1 FM to broadcast St. Charles Catholic-LCA title game

St. Charles Catholic

The Division III state championship game pitting No. 2 seed St. Charles Catholic against No. 5 seed Lafayette Christian will be broadcast on NASH ICON 106.1 FM on Monday afternoon in Natchitoches.

The game broadcast presented by Lamarque Ford and Lamarque Lincoln in Kenner can also be heard via www.nashfm1061.com and through the NASH ICON 106.1 FM app. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. from Turpin Stadium on the campus of Northwestern State University.

Ken Trahan of CrescentCitySports.com and Cumulus New Orleans will have the call of the game, along with Newman head coach Nelson Stewart and Eric Brown of Crescent City Sports.

St. Charles Catholic (7-2) has been superb defensively, allowing just 9.7 points per game while posting three shutouts. The Comets advanced to the title game with a thrilling 24-22 win over No. 3 Notre Dame in the semifinals.

Tulane signee Mandel Eugene leads the Comets with 104 tackles, including 11.5 for loss. Junior defensive lineman Kaiden Jones has 64.5 tackles with 5.5 sacks.

St. charles junior quarterback Zack Vicknair has 842 yards and 10 touchdowns rushing while throwing six touchdown passes. Senior running back Keenan Gauff has added 610 yards and four touchdowns.

LCA (8-1) has also been brilliant on defense, allowing just 7.6 points per game while posting four shutouts. The Knights battled for a 21-7 win at No. 1 Newman in the semifinals.

Junior linebacker Brayden Zeigler is the leading Knights tackler with 60 stops, including eight for loss while junior defensive back Brylan Green has four interceptions.

LSU signee Sage Ryan, who missed the semifinal with a hamstring injury, is expected to return. He has rushed for 572 yards and 14 touchdowns and snared 20 catches for 310 yards and three touchdowns. Ryan, expected to play defensive back at the next level, has also returned three punts for touchdowns.

LCA senior quarterback Ryan Roberts has thrown 11 touchdown passes.

In one of a pair of Monday championship game rematches, Lafayette Christian defeated St. Charles Catholic 41-14 in the Division III state championship game in 2019.

The Knights have won three consecutive state championships, including two in Division IV in 2017 and 2018.
