NASH ICON 106.1 FM to broadcast Edna Karr-Carencro title game
The Class 4A state championship game pitting No. 2 seed Karr against No. 1 seed Carencro will be broadcast on NASH ICON 106.1 FM on Tuesday night in Natchitoches.
Listen live via www.nashfm1061.com and through the NASH ICON 106.1 FM app. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. from Turpin Stadium on the campus of Northwestern State University.
Ken Trahan of CrescentCitySports.com and Cumulus New Orleans will have the call of the game, along with Eric Held of the Louisiana High School Coaches Association.
The game is presented by Lamarque Ford and Lamarque Lincoln in Kenner.
Karr (10-1) advanced with a 35-13 win over No. 6 Warren Easton in the semifinals.
The Cougars average 39.7 points per gmae, led by sophomore quarterback AJ Samuel. The Allstate Sugar Bowl Amateur Athlete of the Month for November has thrown for 2,395 yards with 35 touchdowns and rushed for 401 yards and seven touchdowns.
Karr senior wide receiver Destyn Hill has 34 catches for 798 yards and 15 touchdowns while junior Aaron Anderso, an LSU commit, has 32 catches for 591 yards and six touchdowns.
Junior defensive tackle Tygee Hill is another Karr standout with 15 significant college offers while senior defensive lineman Karl Odrick is a Ball State commit.
Carencro (11-1) advanced with a 49-7 win over Neville in the semifinals.
The Bears average 42.1 points per game behind a power rushing attack.
Running behind an offensive line which averages 296 yards per person, senior Traylon “Popcorn” Prejean is the leading Bears rusher with 1,105 yards and 14 touchdowns. Senior quarterback Tavion Faulk has passed for 512 yards with eight touchdowns and rushed for 354 yards and four scores. Kendrell Williams, a senior and Ragin’ Cajuns commit, has rushed for 757 yards with 15 touchdowns and also has five touchdown receptions.
Defensively, senior middle linebacker Dylan Smith leads Carencro with 67 tackles including 11.5 for loss. Senior free safety Bailey Despanie has 42 tackles and a pair of interceptions.
Karr looks to continue a dynastic run after winning the past four Class 4A state titles.
