The Memphis Tigers dropped their football season finale at Tulane last weekend but the program has had success in this area nonetheless.

Fertile recruiting ground here suits the Tigers well.

Eight players on the current Memphis roster hail from the Pelican state:

QB Keilon Brown (Zachary)
FS Quindell Johnson (Karr)
FS Kendell Johnson (Karr)
PK Austin McCready (John Curtis)
OL Brian Thomas (Scotlandville)
OL Titus Jones (Karr)
WR Khi Mathieu (St. Augustine)
DT Cameron Jackson (Haynesville)

Add another one to the list soon as the Tigers have scooped up another pair for the 2021 class. That gives them five out of Louisiana’s top 50 ranked senior prospects.

The No. 14 ranked player, John Ehret linebacker Andrew Jones, had previously committed to Memphis on June 18th but backed out November 17. After considering Georgia, Tulane, Texas, Florida State, Arizona, Arkansas State, Hawaii, Houston, Kansas, ULL, ULM, Louisville, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Texas Tech, Utah and Washington State, he re-committed to the AAC’s Tigers.

The 6-foot, 220-pounder was joined by the state’s 21st rated overall player, Madison Prep cornerback Tyrell Rasby (5-11, 173), who had also previously pledged to Memphis on June 14th. After backing out on Nov. 17 as well, he re-committed Tuesday.

Rasby considered Tulane, UCF, Michigan State, Purdue, Virginia, Va. Tech, Miami, LA Tech, ULL Houston, Arizona, Indiana, Kansas and Kentucky.

Jones and Rasby are joined by Louisiana’s No. 36 overall recruit, safety Eric Randall III (Woodlawn-BR), No. 28 ranked Kolbe Fields (Rummel linebacker) and and No. 24 rated Raheem Roberts (Bogalusa ATH).

Baton Rouge native and former Louisiana Tech tailback John Simon is the main man responsible for all of the success Memphis has enjoyed in Louisiana. Simon is their recruiting coordinator, passing game coordinator and assistant receivers coach.
