Former New Orleans Saints wide receiver Robert Meachem, LSU football director of external relations Charlie Baglio, Tulane defensive backs coach J.J. McCleskey and Warren Easton head coach Jerry Phillips will speak at the weekly meeting of the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation Quarterback Club luncheon on Tuesday, Nov. 13 at Rock’n’Bowl, 3016 South Carrollton Avenue.

A first-round draft choice of the New Orleans Saints out of Tennessee in 2007, Meachem played six seasons for the Saints and a seventh season for the Chargers. He amassed 25 touchdown receptions with New Orleans and averaged 16.4 yards per catch in his career. Meachem had career highs of 45 catches, 722 yards and nine touchdowns in the 2009 season when the Saints won the Super Bowl.

A graduate of Southeastern Louisiana and native of Independence, Baglio is in his 17th year with the LSU football program. He coached at Independence High School for 34, including 22 as head coach, and posted an outstanding record of 205-69 and took two of his teams to the state championship game.

In his first season working with the Tulane secondary, McCleskey played six seasons in the NFL with the New Orleans Saints and Arizona Cardinals from 1994-99. The former Tennessee star is a member of the Greater Knoxville Sports Hall of Fame. A defensive back, McCleskey was a special teams demon with the Saints.

In his third season as the head coach at Warren Easton, Phillips took over as head coach in 2016 after serving four seasons as defensive coordinator. Phillips was an outstanding player at Karr and was a star linebacker on Tulane’s undefeated team in 1998. He was part of two state championship basketball teams at Karr. Phillips led the Eagles in the Class 4A semifinals for a second straight year in 2017.

Speakers from the Saints, LSU, Tulane and prep football will address the audience weekly each Tuesday, along with special guest speakers from the sports world locally and nationally.

A local high school player of the week is chosen throughout the season with a metro prep player of the year announced at the end of the season, sponsored by the R&L Carriers New Orleans Bowl. Lunch is served.

In addition, Chevron sponsors student-athletes of the week, who receive plaques and recognition for their accomplishments in the classroom.

Annual standard membership is $50. Luncheons are $20 per person for members and $25 per person for non-members for the 16 week schedule (Aug. 28-Dec. 11). All are welcome to attend.
