McNeese’s Vallejo, Seneca earn SLC Softball Player of the Week honors
FRISCO, Texas – For the third time this season, Ashley Vallejo was awarded Pitcher of the Week award of the season while Alayis Seneca picked up her first career Hitter of the Week honors the Southland Conference announced Monday. Southland weekly honors are presented by GEICO.
Vallejo and Seneca led the Cowgirls to a 3-2 week, picking up a shutout win in a midweek competition at UL-Monroe followed by two shutouts against University of Incarnate Word in the final home SLC series of the season.

Vallejo posted a 3-0 record with all wins being shutout victories, giving her seven on the season and four in conference games. The sophomore is currently tied for second on McNeese’s individual season shutout list.
The New Waverly, TX native began the week with a four hit shutout gem at ULM where she earned her 100th strikeout of the season. Following two wins against UIW, Vallejo improved to 14-7 overall. She leads the SLC with a 7-0 record in conference action and has the second lowest conference ERA at 0.36.
She ended the week with a 0.00 ERA and 11 strikeouts in 18.1 innings of work.
Alayis Seneca, Hitter of the Week
Against ULM Seneca led the Cowgirls at the plate, going 4 for 4 with a double, scoring one run. The junior went two for three with two runs during both games of Saturday’s doubleheader against UIW.
The Woodlands, Texas native closed the week with a .533 average, a .733 slugging percentage, two walks, and three doubles. She currently leads the SLC with 17 runs scored during conference play.
