McNeese’s Emily Phillips named SLC Hitter of the Week

FRISCO, Texas—McNeese softball junior catcher Emily Phillips has been named this week’s Southland Conference Hitter of the Week, the league announced Monday.

The native of Chesapeake, Virginia was 4 for 6 with two doubles, one home run, three RBI and a .667 average in wins over #15 LSU and UT-Arlington last week.

Phillips provided the offensive output in the Cowgirls’ win over LSU. Trailing 3-0 in the third inning, Phillips’ two-run home run sparked the Cowgirls comeback, cutting the lead to 3-2 before McNeese tied the game with another run in the inning. She ended the game going 2 for 3 with a two RBI home run and scored a run. She followed that game with a 2 for 3 plate appearance with both hits being doubles in the win over UT-Arlington.

The honor for Phillips is her first of the season and she is the fourth Cowgirl to earn “Hitter of the Week” honors this season.
