LAKE CHARLES – McNeese football will finish up its third week of spring practice on Saturday with its ninth of 15 allowable practices beginning at 11 a.m.

The first half of the session will be practice while the team’s first scrimmage of the spring will cover the second half. The event is closed to the media and public.

“We want to see guys play their position and execute it well,” said head coach Sterlin Gilbert about what he wants to see out of the first scrimmage. “Just being sound on both sides of the ball and what we’re being coached to do and what we’re set to do. Just want to see guys make plays and guys play free.”

Gilbert said around 80-100 plays are expected to be run during the scrimmage.

“I want to improve on the things we’re learning,” said wide receiver Cyron Sutton about Saturday’s scrimmage. “As a receiving corps, I’d like to see us catch more balls, be physical on the edge and blocking. And as a team, I’d like to see execution both offensively and defensively.”

McNeese will return to the practice field on Tuesday and Thursday then will hold its second scrimmage on April 6, which will also be closed.

The spring game will be at noon on April 13 in Cowboy Stadium and will be open to the public.
