LAKE CHARLES – Andrew Gonzales’ two-run single with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning lifted McNeese to an 11-10 win over Prairie View on Sunday afternoon as the Cowboys completed the three-game weekend series sweep.

McNeese (11-5) trailed 10-8 heading into the final frame and got things going when Cooper Hext led-off with an infield single to first base then reached second on a throwing error by the PV third baseman in a double play attempt off a Payton Harden grounder.

Hext advanced to third after tagging up on a Josh Leslie outfield liner and Brad Burckel loaded the bases after being hit-by-a-pitch.

Following a PV pitching change, Tré Obregon III walked to score Hext and cut the deficit to 10-9, then Gonzales sent a 2-2 pitch into right-center field that scored Harden and Burckel for the walk-off win.

Burrell Jones (2-0) picked up the win in relief effort after throwing 3.1 hitless and scoreless innings while striking out five. Jones entered the game with two out in the top of the sixth inning and the Cowboys trailing 10-7.

Burrell retired nine of the 10 batters faced which allowed the Cowboys’ offense to get back into the game.

Hext finished the day 2-for-4 at the plate with his fifth home run of the season. He also scored two runs and drove in three. Leslie added his fourth homer on the year.

Starting pitcher Zach Voss threw 2.1 scoreless innings and allowed one hit with four strikeouts in a predetermined outing.

The Cowboys, who have now won 10 of their last 12, will return to action on Tuesday when they host Mississippi Valley State at 6 p.m.
