LAKE CHARLES — McNeese first year head women’s basketball coach Lynn Kennedy has assembled his first schedule as the Cowgirls head coach and its one that will be tough and challenging.

The 2021-22 schedule consists of opponents from six different conferences besides the Southland Conference along with a trip to the west coast for two games. Kennedy designed the schedule to prepare the Cowgirls conference action by scheduling tough road opponents and tough environments for both home and away contest.

“In order to prepare for the new Southland Conference schedule, we felt the need to challenge our team during the non-conference schedule,” Kennedy said. “This is a schedule that will prepare us to play on the road against tough opponents and experience the home atmosphere against some in-state rivals. The west coast trip will let us experience one of the toughest places to play against a Top 10 team, the University of Oregon, and play against a Cal program with tremendous tradition and excellence.”

The Cowgirls will play teams from the SEC, PAC-12, Conference USA, Sun Belt, WAC, and the SWAC along with a NAIA opponent.

Fans will get a first look at the Cowgirl squad beginning with an exhibition game against Dillard on Oct. 30. The regular season is set to begin on the road at Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Nov. 9.

McNeese will host Southwest Assembly of God on Nov. 13 in its home opener along with non-conference home games against Champions College (Nov. 23) and WNIT participant last season in UL-Lafayette (Nov. 28).

A stretch of five consecutive road games from Dec. 1-18 will have the Cowgirls traveling to Mississippi State (Dec. 1), Lamar (Dec. 7), University of California (Dec. 11), University of Oregon (Dec. 13), a team that advanced to the NCAA Tournament last season. The Cowgirls will also travel to UL-Monroe on Dec. 18 before returning home to face Louisiana Tech on Dec. 22 before breaking for the Christmas Holiday.

Following the Christmas break, the Cowgirls will take part in the Southland Conference Pre-Southland Conference Tournament in Katy, Texas (Jan. 3-5) prior to kicking off the SLC regular season schedule against Houston Baptist on Jan. 15. The conference schedule will consist of teams playing home and home with the SLC Tournament scheduled for March 10-13 in Katy.
