McNeese product BJ Blunt set for East-West Shrine Game on Saturday
LAKE CHARLES – Former McNeese linebacker B.J. Blunt will play in the final game of his collegiate career when he takes part in the East-West Shrine Game on Saturday in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. (CT) and the game will broadcast live on the NFL Network.
Blunt will be a member of the West team and will wear No. 18.
The New Orleans native recently wrapped up a two-year career with the Cowboys and etched his name as one of the greatest linebackers to play in the blue and gold.
He earned consensus All-American status this past season by being named to the first team by the AP, AFCA, Walter Camp, STATS and Phil Steele; and second team honors by Hero Sports.
The 2018 Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Year recorded 102 total tackles, 11 sacks, and 20 tackles for a loss, all in 10 games played in 2018.
His tackles for a loss total ranked him third in the FCS while his sack total ranked him sixth in the nation.
He recorded 10 or more tackles in a game four times on the season and had a high of 20 tackles in a win over Abilene Christian, making him the first Cowboy player to record 20 stops in a game since the 1997 season.
Blunt is the fourth McNeese Cowboy in school history to play in the East-West Shrine Game and the first since 2003 when Roderick Royal participated.
