FRISCO, Texas – McNeese kicker Gunnar Raborn has been named this week’s Southland Conference Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in the Cowboys’ 13-3 win over Lamar last Saturday to cap a 9-2 season.

Raborn, a junior from Lafayette, scored seven points in the game by hitting two field goals and an extra point. He nailed a 52-yard field goal seconds before the end of the second quarter to put McNeese up 10-0, then booted a 24-yarder in the third quarter to make it a 13-0 game.

His 52-yard field goal tied as the third-longest in school history and the longest since the 2010 season when Josh Lewis’s 52-yard kick lifted McNeese to a last second win over Southeastern Louisiana.

Raborn ended the season ranked No. 1 in the FCS in field goal percentage with a 92.3 mark after hitting 12 of 13 for the season with his only miss being a blocked kick in the 10th game of the season against Northwestern State. That percentage is also ranked as the third highest in the history of the FCS and is a new school and conference record.

Southeastern Louisiana running back Marcus Cooper and Northwestern State linebacker Peyton Guidry were named the league’s offensive and defensive players of the week respectively.
