McNeese announces 2022 cross country schedule

LAKE CHARLES – The McNeese Cross Country teams will open up their season on September 2 when they host the McNeese Opener. A women’s 3k will start things off at 6 p.m. while the men will run a 6k at 6:20.

It’ll be the first of two home meets this fall for the Cowboys and Cowgirls.

On Sept. 24, McNeese will hold the Lake Charles Toyota Cowboy Stampede with the women’s 8k race starting at 8:30 a.m. followed by a men’s 4-mile race at 9 a.m.

Both meets will take place at the Enos Derbonne Complex on Lake Street behind the Lake Charles Regional Airport.

On October 15, the Cowboys and Cowgirls will run at the Texas A&M Arturo Barrios Invite in College Station, Texas, then on Oct. 28, the Cowboys will look to defend their Southland Conference championship as both squads will run at the SLC meet in Thibodaux.

The NCAA South Central Regionals will be held on Nov. 11 at College Station and the NCAA Championships will run on Nov. 18 in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

In addition to the college meets, McNeese will run a couple of high school contests – Sept. 14 the McNeese HS 2-miler for high school and middle school teams. That will begin at 3 p.m. On Sept. 24 at the Lake Charles Toyota Cowboy Stampede, high school teams will run at 9:45, following the men’s and women’s races.

The track and field/cross country program will hold its annual McNeese Cowboy Club 5k Gallop and Kids 1k Fun Run fundraiser on Oct. 8 at 8:05 a.m. where runners will end the race at the 50-yard line in Cowboy Stadium.
