Matthew Tucker named volleyball head coach at Cabrini
NEW ORLEANS – Matthew Tucker has been named head coach of the Cabrini High School volleyball team for the 2022-2023 school year.
“I am honored to join Cabrini High School as the head volleyball coach,” said Tucker upon the announcement. “I am eager to start working with the team and faculty to continue the tradition of excellence, not just in volleyball but in academics and life. I strive to help the students grow as individuals into outstanding young women.”
Throughout high school, Tucker was a member of the Cecilia High School baseball team and thereafter worked with college baseball and basketball teams. Tucker began playing volleyball 15 years ago and kicked off his coaching career at the Academy of Sacred Heart Grand Coteau in 2005.
Since then, Tucker’s extensive coaching experience spans the Lafayette and New Orleans areas at many schools and clubs. He’s spent the past six years as director and head coach at Bayou Volleyball Club in New Orleans and the last five years as assistant coach for the varsity volleyball team at John Curtis Christian School.
“I am passionate about volleyball and look forward to helping build the program,” said Tucker. “I am excited to help students navigate the high school athletics scene, but also to help them obtain higher goals of playing ball in college.”
Regarding the announcement, Cabrini’s Athletic Director Kirk A. Maronge said, “We are extremely fortunate to welcome Matthew Tucker into the Cabrini family as the new head volleyball coach. With Matthew’s passion for the sport and his extensive knowledge of the game of volleyball, we think he will be a great addition to the school, and we are eager to get started.”
