Mart is GCAC Player of the Week for the second time this season
NEW ORLEANS — Rayshawn Mart, Xavier University of Louisiana’s high-scoring senior guard, is the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week in men’s basketball for the second time this season and the fourth time in his career.
The GCAC announced Monday that Mart was the winner for Nov. 2-8.
Mart — from Houma, La., and a graduate of H.L. Bourgeois High School — averaged 28.5 points and 9.5 rebounds in two games and shot 51.5 percent from the floor, 54.5 percent on 3-pointers and 68 percent on free throws. Mart had 26 points, 10 rebounds and a career-best four blocks in a home victory against William Carey, then scored a season-high 31 in a loss at city rival Loyola.
Mart became the first XULA player in 17 seasons with 25-or-more points in three consecutive games.
The next game for XULA, 2-1 and ranked 20th in the NAIA, will tip off at 7 p.m. Nov. 18 — one week from Wednesday — against William Carey in Hattiesburg, Miss.
