Marshon Lattimore named NFL Defensive Rookie of the Month for October

Marshon Lattimore, a rookie cornerback out of Ohio State who the New Orleans Saints selected with the 11th pick of the 2017 NFL draft, was named the league’s Defensive Rookie of the Month for October on Wednesday, Nov. 2.

The Saints (5-2) went 3-0 in October with wins over the Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears and Lattimore had two interceptions, five passes defended, a fumble recovery and 11 tackles in the month. He returned one of his interceptions for a touchdown against Detroit. The second one iced the Saints’ win over the Bears last Sunday.

Lattimore, a 6-foot, 192-pounder from Cleveland, has quickly turned into a shutdown corner for the Saints and is one of the reasons for the unit’s strong play during the teams’s five-game winning streak.

Lattimore is the first Saints player to win the award since defensive end Darren Howard received it twice in 2000. Running back Reggie Bush won the offensive version of the award in December 2006.

The Saints will play host to division rival Tampa Bay (2-5) on Sunday at noon at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
