Malcolm Dienes stays unbeaten; Cretin Townsend Homes impressive in win

Archbishop Rummel-based Malcolm Dienes remained unbeaten in Crescent City Sports Prep Summer League play Monday, outlasting St. Augustine-based Chapter IV Restaurant at Raider Park, 11-8.

It looked like it would be an easy win over the Raiders early as they jumped out to a 5-0 lead after three innings but Chapter IV erupted for five runs in the top of the fourth inning to tie it.

Malcolm Dienes answered with a run in the bottom of the fourth to take a 6-5 lead but the Purple Knights tied it again with a run in the top of the fifth.

The Raiders recaptured the lead with a run in the bottom of the fifth and expanded the edge to 11-6 with four runs in the sixth. Chapter IV scored two runs in the seventh to account for the final margin.

Each team had 10 hits.

Louisiana Tech commit Gavin Nix had two hits and four RBI while Aiden Gernard added three hits and two RBI. LSU commit Mikey Ryan had two doubles and an RBI, Lenny Cline had a double and two RBI and Ruben Ramirez drove in a run for Malcolm Dienes (4-0).

Coleman Capaci started and pitched three scoreless innings, allowing just one hit. He talked just one and struck out five. Chapter IV touched Brian Keller for six runs in two innings before Nick Culotta pitched the final two innings, allowing two runs for the Raiders.

Yerdin Castillo was outstanding for Chapter IV (0-2), going 4 for 4 with two RBI. Jayden Jackson pitched three innings, allowing five runs on four hits. Zach Thorton took the loss in relief for the Purple Knights.

St. Charles Catholic-based Cretin Townsend Homes handled St. Thomas Aquinas 10-0 in a game shortened to five innings at Comet Field.

The Comets (2-1-1) took control early, scoring five runs in the bottom of the first inning. Cretin Townsend Homes added single runs in the third and fourth innings and walked it off with three runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Jackson Monica pitched a 2-hitter, allowing just one walk with three strikeouts. Monica had two hits and scored a run at the plate. Jackson Doster had two hits and three RBI, Jackson Monica had two hits and Hudson Heltz had two hits and an RBI. Landree LeBlanc, Joshua Jensen and Reshawn Hilaire each drove in a run for the Comets.

Hunter Gambel and Cace Reed each had a hit for the Falcons (1-2). Gambel started and took the loss for St. Thomas Aquinas. Cayden Cuti, Braeden Bovie and Gavin Brown followed Gambel to the mound.

Cretin Townsend Homes will play Malcolm Dienes at Raider Park at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
