BATON ROUGE — LSU men’s basketball senior Skylar Mays made a game-winning 18-footer to give the Tigers a 60-59 victory over Mississippi State on Saturday. LSU improves to 11-4 on the season and remain a perfect 3-0 in SEC play. Mississippi State falls to 9-6 and 1-2 in SEC play.

LSU trailed by a point with 4.6 seconds to play following a go-ahead layup by Mississippi State’s Reggie Perry. After an LSU timeout, Mays took the in-bounds pass, advanced past mid-court along the left sideline, reversed his dribble outside the three-point arc and released the shot with 1.5 seconds. It hit nothing but net as the clock expired.

Sophomore forward Emmitt Williams led the Tigers on offense with 17 points going an efficient 5/9 from the field. Charles Manning Jr. was a spark off the bench with 15 points, including a clutch three with one minute left in the game to give the Tigers a two-point lead. On the glass, sophomore forward Darius Days corralled eight boards. 11 assists helped the LSU offense, six coming from senior guard Skylar Mays and four from freshman wing Trendon Watford.

For Mississippi State, three players had 12+ points. The Bulldog’s were impressive on the glass, sophomore forward Reggie Perry had 15 rebounds and junior forward Abdul Ado had 12.

The Tigers are back in action at College Station against Texas A&M Tuesday, Jan. 14, at 6 p.m. Tickets for the 2020 remaining home games are available now at www.LSUtix.net.
